Just very out of place, even considering the occultism. The women nazi agents are all in skin tight suits or underwear for the one lady. Another criticism is the character design, which has some bizzare choices. It's not the worst on normal difficulty, but still incredibly annoying. They rarely miss and know where you are at all times, which makes the awful stealth sections more difficult. Sometimes it feels like the ai characters have aimbot and inhumane reflexes. It is a flawed experience, something that bothered me the most was the wonky ai. You get to see where a lot of the same ideas that were prevalent in the newer games, they took a lot of ideas from this one. If you have played any of the reboots and enjoyed them it is definitely worth a try, if you don't mind minimal story and dated graphics with corny characters. Level design is good for the most part, and a surprising variety of occultism and classic world war 2 shooter vibes. The gunplay is surprisingly pretty decent. The weapons are all useful in different situations and are kind of satisfying. Overall I think its really good, lots of aspects of old boomers shooters but with slightly better quality of life. Sat on this game for a few years before coming back and playing through it, which also was on and off for a year or two. The grenade throws are really lacking power which makes it hard to deal a lot of damage with them. It is especially the case with the sniper rifles, and the zooming mechanics themselves are not the greatest in my opinion. The gameplay itself is still fairly decent to this day, although weapon inaccuracy is definitely obvious, which makes it a little frustrating if you like clean and crisp kills. īesides the great joy that killing nazis bring, i like the modern twist and the " mad scientists nazi " angle this game brings, inspired by the crazy experiments nazis alledgedly conducted during WWII. ![]() It was one of the first fps i have ever played in my life, only grew up with a family computer and no consoles, i must thank my older brother for installing this ones and many others ahaha. ![]() Oh where do i begin, I for some reason adore this game. If you're looking for a classic FPS nazi-killing experience with tinges of the Occult/sci-fi, pick this one up. It goes without saying that games this old require you to dial back your expectations. I would not have had any of these complaints in 2001 and I'm only mentioning them because the rest of game is absolute quality. The game's story is cursory at best and is just a license for you to shoot anything that moves (which is fine). Some mechanics are unwieldy, like not being able to move much while using scoped rifles, and awkward grenade arcs that will have you running from your own grenades at times. The random weapon spread can be mildly annoying when you're fighting hitscanners that pre-fire you the second you're in line of sight. Some of the late-game Occult/sci-fi enemies are pretty half baked and can be unfun to fight on higher difficulties. The first chapter of the game feels like a near perfect transposition of Wolf3D into a proper 3D game, but the following chapters suffer from occasional dips in quality. RtcW has earned its reputation as a classic shooter, but it definitely starts high and ends low. It plays like Quake 3 disguised as a WW2 game, which is unsurprising considering it was developed using the same engine (you can even strafe jump around if you want). The first Wolfenstein game in true 3D, generally a good, fun entry into the series.
